I do not know that you'll be able to salvage the Touch ID functionality of the home button with the connector being damaged. You may need to purchase iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Home Button Assembly and iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Home Button Gasket. This will no longer retain the Touch ID functionality though. Your replacement part may come with anextra Phillips screwalready installed left of the Home Button. This will keep glass shards contained and provide structural integrity when prying and lifting the display. Apply mild heat to soften the adhesive securing the home button gasket.

Will the short circuit damage the logic board or the camera / earpiece assembly? I'm worried just encountered this very issue even though the phone was off. Hold the iPhone firmly with one hand, and with the other, pull up on the suction cup to slowly separate the front panel assembly from the rear of the case.

Use a plastic opening tool to hold down the rear case while pulling up the suction cup to open the phone. Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the digitizer cable connector. Using the point of the spudger tool, disconnect the home button cable connector by gently pushing it up and away from the home button.
After reassembly, clean the touchscreen surface with an alcohol wipe prior to turning the iPhone back on. The alcohol helps dissipate any lingering static electricity, which can cause problems with the display. Do not attempt to insert longer screws into the red marked screw holes. Doing so may result in irreparable damage to the logic board. Pull the plastic nub to release the vacuum seal on the suction cup.
